Jonas is a young boy with dyslexia who, at the age of eight, cannot learn to read, cannot understand the meaning of individual letters, and therefore he is sent to an auxiliary school - to "Idiot". The book is a powerful challenge to the school system, the ignorance of teachers and the use of power. When the novel was first published in 1955, it caused a storm. It has been translated into many different languages. In Norway alone, it has been released in countless casts. Now Latvian readers also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with this work, although it was published long ago, but it is still modern and relevant.
