The light of the stars descends quietly over the earth, and the ancient tales sound along with it. Listen! Since ancient times, people, looking at the sky, saw images in the patterns of the stars and gave them certain names. The book collects fables about the constellations visible at our latitude, in the northern hemisphere of the sky. The names of constellations and stars use generally accepted astronomical symbols. The Latin name of each constellation and its brightest star is also mentioned, as long as it is particularly bright and clearly visible in the sky. The book uses the more familiar Greek tales about constellations in European culture, but also includes one ancient Babylonian tale and a star tale from India. In places, the names of constellations recognizable in Latvian culture are also mentioned in the text. Unfortunately, the ancient Latvian stories about the constellations have not been preserved, only a few rhymes can be heard in our songs. Read fairy tales and tell them to children, let yourself be guided by the mysterious light of the stars and look to see the constellations in the night sky! I wish all readers that the fairy tales and the images conjured by the book's artist Elina inspire them to study the starry sky, that the book serves as a guide to the world of stars! I wish you a never-ending interest in the starry sky above our heads and a time full of inspiration for studying the stars,
Aija Rancāne , organizer of the book
A book for those readers who are tempted by the mysteries of the stars. It is about stars and star characters. Having once walked their paths of life and done their work on earth, they, having been lifted up to heaven, now shine in the writings of the constellations and continue to tell about the ancient events. The book will serve as a guide to the world of stars, helping to see star patterns in the night sky and telling tales about the stars. May the book help everyone to find their star, their hero in the starry sky!
